A Little Something About Me
I am Captain John Dittrich. I am the captain, master guide, and owner of Johnny Boy Charters, a fishing charter based in Marblehead, Ohio. I am a passionate angler who has been fishing for 12 years.
I've been fishing Ohio's Lake Erie since I was old enough to hold a rod. After my freshman year in college, my father sent me to PA to get my captain's license. After I got that taken care of, I started my career guiding other fishers. I have experience working on bigger boats, taking out about 30 people at a time on one to three-person trips.
In my 12 years of fishing career, I always look forward to bringing my guests around the area and taking them to some of my best fishing spots. I am well-trained in handling anglers fishing with their families, beginning anglers, and kids starting their passion for fishing.
My Favored Fishing Memory
Honestly, it is hard to recall which one happened first, but I believe one of my favorite fishing memories was when I caught my first fish, Ohio walleye. Looking back, I think I was just around four to five years old. We were using a crawler harness with bottom bouncers on Lake Erie. I remember falling asleep with my rod in my hands and waking up to my dad telling me to set the hook. By the time the fish was in the net, I had realized how big the walleye was.

I can say that Lake Erie is one of my most favored fishing spots. Lake Erie is my home lake to fish and guide on, and it is also the "Walleye Capital of the World." The only time I have to leave her is when I have to go and chase fish through the ice. Lake Erie offers a great time for fishing. The fishing season in Lake Erie is year-round, whether it's summer or winter in the area. Lake Erie has fertile soil and a diverse ecosystem, functioning as home to hundreds of species of fish native to the lake. Lake Erie is a famous destination in the Midwest area, as the shores and islands in Ohio can easily lure tourists and visitors with their beauty. Lake Erie also houses the renowned Kelleys Island, known as "An Island For All Seasons," as it provides a beautiful attraction in winter or summer.

My favorite fish to target would be walleye, trout, and perch. They are some of the fish that are frequently targeted by anglers in Lake Erie. Fish species like yellow perch, walleye, Chinook salmon, coho salmon, carp, smallmouth bass, northern pike, brown trout, largemouth bass, and rainbow trout are commonly spotted in the lake.
