Ailey Fishing: Not Just A Small Town

The Oconee River is the primary fishing spot in Ailey. The river originates from Hall County and then joins the Ocmulgee River and Altamaha River near Lumber City. Oconee River flows through the borders of Montgomery County, Wheeler County, and Jeff Davis County. The river is a massive 220-mile-long with a length of 350 kilometers. Anglers can catch fish species: largemouth bass, flathead catfish, blue catfish, white bass, crappie, longnose gar, channel catfish, and spotted bass. Its location allows anglers to fish from the banks, go baitcasting, try fly fishing, choose to spin fish, or even resort to drift fishing. It is one of the best fishing spots in Ailey.

Anglers can also head to Ailey's other fishing locations, such as Ochwalkee Creek, Flat Creek, Bear Creek, McArthur Lake, Buckhorn Creek, Limestone Creek, Peterson Creek, and Cypress Branch; Cobb Creek, Larry Creek, and the Gross Pond. Catfish, redbreast sunfish, bass, and bluegill are the top fish species present in the waters of Ailey. Chain pickerel, green sunfish, and black crappie are also available here.

The fishing season in Ailey is open year-round, but spring is the most suitable time to head out. Anglers are reminded to review the state's fishing regulations before casting their lines.
