Apex is a small community in Wake County, North Carolina, located at the highest point along the 30-mile section of the Chatham Railroad, earning its name, which means the top. Apex community developed around the railroad station, and being one of the first communities to progress around Raleigh, the state capital, it became an active trading and shopping center. It is a shipping point for various turpentine, tar, and lumber products.

Tobacco farming also became an essential part of boosting the city’s economy during the 1900s. The land around Apex is an excellent spot to grow tobacco crops, and eventually established the first tobacco auction market in 1905. This small city doesn't only has fertile land and great residents but also fantastic water bodies for fishing.

North Carolina’s fantastic water bodies provide many options for anglers to choose where to go fishing. It has many fishing spots where you can surely land a big catch. You can fish in the surrounding reservoirs, piers, beaches,  lakes, rivers, and streams abundant with various fish species.

Some of Apex’s most famous fishing destinations are Cape Fear River and Jordan lake.

Anglers consider Cape Fear River a world-class fishing spot and an angler’s paradise because of its diverse fishing opportunities. There are large reservoirs with public access lakes that you may find in the upper portion of the river. Various freshwater species include largemouth bass, striped bass, catfish, sunfish, and bream.

As the river's lower section transitions to the estuary, it becomes brackish water where you can catch both freshwater and saltwater fish species. As you go near the mouth of the river where it empties into the Atlantic Ocean, species including trout, redfish, flounder, and sheepshead are abundant.

The best time for offshore fishing at the Cape Fear River is when you can find mahi-mahi, yellowfin tuna, and wahoo between May and September. Inshore fishing peaks from July to December.

Another famous fishing spot is Jordan Lake. This 14,000-acre reservoir appeals to freshwater enthusiasts who wish to land a big catch of their favorite freshwater species, such as striped bass, white bass, sunfish, and catfish. There are plenty of fishing opportunities around 180 miles of the shoreline. You may try kayak fishing, boat, canoe, or shoreline fishing. Whichever option you prefer, it is guaranteed that you will never go home empty-handed.

Aside from exciting fishing opportunities, Jordan Lake also offers marinas, eateries, lodging, and stores that you may visit after your fishing trip. There are also boat rentals and public boat ramps that you can use to launch a private watercraft. Try this incredible experience with your family and friends, and rest assured that your weekend getaway will be fun and unforgettable.
