About The Bayou Dupont

About Bayou Dupont, LA

Bayou Dupont in Plaquemines Parish sits close to Myrtle Grove. This bay is positioned in the southeast of Chef Menteur and in the east of Fort Macomb State Historic Site. Situated about 9.9 miles from Lafitte, other surrounding water bodies can be found nearby such as Round Lake, Bayou McCutchen, Goelette Bay, Oaks Bayou, and Spoonbill Bay. With over 77,000 miles of coastline to offer, the overall area of Bayou Dupont has not been disclosed since its natural limits are difficult to determine.

The Louisiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) makes sure to put the creation of marshlands as one of their high environmental priorities. This is because they are aware of the role and significance of restored wetlands in being the first line of defense for hurricane-driven floods in the future. Bayou Dupont was able to have its structure dredged and 500 acres of its area rebuilt with the help of Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company. The project was mainly focused on the placement of two marsh creation sites by hydraulically dredging from the Mississippi River. In addition, they built 27,000 feet of containment dikes.

Bayou Dupont Seasonal & Other Description

Fishing Seasonality

Anglers can fish in Bayou Dupont all year-round but the best season to throw in a line in the water would be during fall. Because inshore fishing is usually done in the fall, it’s easier for anglers to get a catch during this season. The tide in this area makes the communication between anglers and the water easier by allowing the tide to make the fish evident as it rises. The best fishing times to watch out for in Bayou Dupont would be from 7:32 to 9:32 AM. Anglers may also try to fish from 1:12 to 3:12 PM if the first peak does not grant them as many catches as they would like. Although these could be the best times for anglers to come out and schedule a fishing trip, weather changes during these time windows should be monitored in order to achieve a smooth fishing trip.
