The Los Gatos Creek flows 24 miles (39 km) and is located in Santa Clara County. The stream runs through Guadalupe Watershed from the Santa Cruz Mountain which is a portion under Santa Clara Valley District, and is directed to the north Santa Clara Valley until its waters connect with that of the Guadalupe River in downtown San Jose. The Guadalupe River consequently streams into San Francisco Bay.
Los Gatos Creek’s name originated from the Alta California land grant, “Rancho Rinconada de Los Gatos” which translates to “corner of the cats” in English. The creek derived its name from this grant because of the abundance of cougars and bobcats that roam the mountains of this area, even until now.
