About Princeton Canal Number C-102, FL

Princeton Canal Number C-102 is a canal found in Miami-Dade County. It’s measured to be approximately 1.85 miles away from the town of Princeton and has an elevation of 3 meters. It is near two famous landmarks in the county, the Silver Palm community district and Monkey Jungle zoological park. You can find an airport fairly close to the area of the Vihler Landing Strip, which is about 3.44 miles away from the canal. Another park is also within the vicinity, named the Princetonian Park, one of the nearer landmarks being only 1.9 miles from the canal. 

Some of the local anglers that frequent the canal come from the Silver Palm community since it is one of the closest towns to the canal. It used to be a district community in the early 20th century but has since been assimilated into other communities found in the area. Back in 1928, the districts of Homestead and Redland used to be a part of it. Currently, the name of the community survives through the Silver Palm Drive road and the historic Silver Palm Schoolhouse. 

You can find the famous Jungle Monkey Park just under 1.5 miles to the south of the canal. The park is over 30-acres in size and is dedicated to the study of endangered monkeys. It was established by Joseph DuMond in 1933 and is now the home for 300 primates. The park’s tagline “Where humans are caged and monkeys run wild!" hints that the primary attraction is the ability to travel through a caged walkway while different primates roam semi-freely within their natural habitat.

It still manages to flow through a large part of the county, allowing these many fish species to flow within its currents. There are three prevalent fish species in the area, and they are considered the most active too. These species are largemouth bass, peacock cichlid, and the Mayan cichlid. Locals have caught other species in the canal as well, these include grass carp, bluegill,  and even the crevalle jack. 

You’ll be able to visit more than a few bait shops on your way to the canal, both Princeton and Silver Palm have shops that can provide you with high-quality fishing gear and equipment to make sure that you can make the most out of your fishing trip. Since largemouth bass is the most active it's best to bring live bait such as crawfish or shad. For the peacock cichlid, use a live shiner attached to a specialized hook such as topwater plugs, crankbaits, and spoon hooks. The Mayan cichlid is best caught with minnows, worms, or grass shrimp.

This makes them go to the shallower waters near a shore. This time is during the fall, the best time to fish in the area is during the days between September to November. There aren’t heavy restrictions on when you can fish in the area. You can start your fishing trip at any time, but reports show that the fish are most active during the early morning approximately 6:00 AM to 8:00 AM. Another effective time to fish is late in the evening from  7:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
