Full Day Offshore Fishing Adventure
Captain Robert knows these waters like the back of his hand, and he's ready to show you what the Atlantic has to offer just off Morehead City. This isn't your typical inshore fishing trip – we're talking about heading out into the deep blue where the big boys live. Whether you've been fishing for decades or you're just getting your feet wet, this full day offshore charter is designed to give everyone a shot at some serious fish. The boat holds up to 6 anglers, so bring your crew and get ready for a day of fishing that'll have you planning your next trip before you even hit the dock.
What to Expect on the Water
We're talking about a full day out here, which means you'll have plenty of time to work different spots and techniques. Captain Robert runs a tight ship but keeps things relaxed – he wants you to have fun while giving you the best shot at hooking into something special. The boat is well-equipped with everything you need, from quality rods and reels to all the terminal tackle. You'll be fishing the Gulf Stream and its edges, where the warm blue water holds some of the most sought-after game fish on the East Coast. The captain knows when to move and when to stay put, reading the water conditions and looking for signs of life. Don't worry about bringing your own gear unless you want to – everything's provided, and it's good stuff that can handle whatever we hook into.
Trolling the Deep Blue
Most of our fishing happens while trolling, which means we're constantly moving and covering water to find active fish. We'll run a spread of baits and lures designed to attract different species – everything from ballyhoo rigs for sailfish to big lures that'll get a marlin's attention. The key to offshore fishing is staying mobile and adapting to what the fish are telling you. Some days they want the baits pulled fast, other days they're more finicky and prefer a slower presentation. Captain Robert has decades of experience reading these signs and adjusting accordingly. When we mark fish on the sounder or see birds working, we might switch to live bait fishing or try some bottom fishing if the conditions are right. The Gulf Stream current creates upwelling that brings baitfish to the surface, and that's where the magic happens.
Species You'll Want to Hook
White Marlin are the bread and butter of North Carolina's offshore scene, especially during summer months. These fish typically run 40-80 pounds and are absolute rockets when hooked. They're known for their spectacular jumps and long runs, making them a favorite among sport fishermen. Peak season runs from June through September when the water temperatures are prime. What makes white marlin so special is their aggressive nature – they'll often come up behind the baits multiple times before committing, giving you that heart-pounding anticipation that offshore fishing is famous for.
Atlantic Sailfish are another crowd favorite, and for good reason. These fish are built for speed and acrobatics, often spending more time out of the water than in it once hooked. They're typically smaller than marlin, usually ranging from 30-50 pounds, but what they lack in size they make up for in pure athleticism. Sailfish are most active during the cooler months, from November through April, when they migrate along our coast. The sight of a sailfish "greyhounding" across the surface with its sail fully extended is something you'll never forget.
King Mackerel, or "smokers" as locals call them, are fast and fierce fighters that'll test your drag system. These fish can range anywhere from 10 pounds to over 50, with the bigger ones showing up during fall migration. They're notorious for their blistering initial runs and tendency to jump unexpectedly. Kings are also excellent table fare, making them a popular target for anglers who want both sport and dinner. They're often caught while trolling for other species, providing consistent action throughout the day.
Blue Marlin represent the holy grail of East Coast fishing. These giants can exceed 400 pounds and are the stuff of fishing legends. While they're less common than their white marlin cousins, when one shows up, everything else becomes secondary. Blues are most active during the warmest months when the Gulf Stream is strongest. Their sheer power and size make them a bucket list fish for serious anglers. Even a smaller blue marlin will give you a fight you'll be talking about for years.
Mahi Mahi, also called dolphinfish or dorado, are among the most beautiful fish in the ocean with their brilliant gold and green colors. They're also fantastic fighters, known for their acrobatic displays and strong runs. Mahi typically travel in schools, so when you find one, there are usually more around. They're most abundant during the warmer months and are excellent eating, making them a favorite target for both sport and sustenance. These fish are often found around floating debris or weed lines in the Gulf Stream.
Time to Book Your Spot
This is the kind of fishing trip that creates lifelong memories and gets people hooked on offshore angling. Captain Robert has the experience and local knowledge to put you on fish, but remember – that's why they call it fishing, not catching. The ocean doesn't guarantee anything, but with the right captain and quality equipment, your odds go way up. The boat is comfortable enough for a full day, and with only 6 spots available, you'll get the personal attention that makes the difference between a good trip and a great one. Whether you're looking to check a billfish off your bucket list or just want to experience what offshore fishing is all about, this charter delivers. Don't wait too long to book – the best fishing days fill up fast, especially during peak season when the bite is hot.
