Conway has a lot going for it as a livable city close enough to the capital but equally charming in its own right. It has the metropolitan vibe of a big city, the friendly spirit of a tight-knit community, and the artsy vibe of a college town. It is likewise known for its devotion to nature and the great outdoors. So if you’re in Little Rock for a vacation, consider popping by Conway, which is just 30 minutes away on I-40 E.

As a hub of education, sports, technology, arts, and culture, Conway has attracted many residents seeking a place to live that offers equal opportunities for employment and enjoyment. Today, the city is one of Arkansas’s fastest-growing urban districts, making it attractive for families looking to start anew and travelers who want to see a new side of the state.

When visiting Conway, don’t forget that this city is a highly rated sport fishing destination. Come by any season, and you’ll find fish biting in many of its productive fishing waters.

Conway Fishing: Productive Fishing Opportunities in a Thriving City

Visiting Conway on a day trip from Little Rock? If you can only include one hotspot to your itinerary, make it Lake Conway. The lake is famous for being the biggest man-made lake created by the US Game and Fishing Commission. You can access this productive lake within Craig D. Campbell Lake Conway Reservoir. The most popular targets here are bluegill and redear sunfish, but you can also expect to snag some trophy largemouth bass, crappie, blue catfish, channel catfish, and flathead catfish. Depending on the season, you might catch bowfin, chain pickerel, common carp, grass carp, black drum, green sunfish, longear sunfish, warmouth, longnose gar, and white bass.

Lake Beaverfork may not be as popular among visitors because of its daily boat launch fee, but it is worth a shot if you have money to spare. You can catch bluegill, largemouth bass, redear sunfish, channel catfish, and crappie. It’s best fished on a boat, but you can also fish on the public fishing pier.

A few minutes from Conway, you’ll find Pinnacle Mountain State Park, the best spot to visit if you want to fish the Big Maumelle River and the Little Maumelle River. From its primitive boat ramp and fishing pier, you can catch largemouth bass, spotted bass, bluegill, channel catfish, blue catfish, flathead catfish, and crappie.

Dare to venture a little further out and fish in Lake Dardanelle State Park, a scenic fishing hotspot with a view of Mount Nebo. It’s a great place to try jigging or spinning, especially near the fish attractors, which tend to draw crappie any time of the year.

Immerse in the Spirit of Conway

1. Attend the Legendary Toad Suck Daze

If you happen to be in Central Arkansas around May, then make sure to add Toad Suck Daze to your must-do list. It’s one of the biggest family-friendly festivals in the state, based on popular local folklore. What’s great about this particular festival is its proceeds go to the county’s education initiatives.

2. Visit the University of Central Arkansas

This university contributes to the thriving arts and culture scene of the city. Here you can visit the amazing Baum Gallery, which supports and displays many of its students’ artworks alongside professional artists. You can also catch some Shakespeare plays at the university as it is home to the state’s only professional Shakespeare company. The university has several public performances mounted by the different colleges, many of which are free for the public to attend.

Fish in Conway and beyond.
