About The Largo Sound
Located on Key Largo at Monroe County in Florida, Largo Sound is a saltwater bay that has an elevation of seven feet or two meters. It is to the west of the unincorporated community of Anglers Park and in the area of John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, the first underwater park in the United States which encompasses Angelfish Creek to close to Molasses Creek.
The bay is part of Key Largo which is dubbed as the ‘Diving Capital of the World’, attracting sportfishers and scuba divers alike. It is also a premier destination for ecotourists and kayakers, possessing the beauty and natural abundance of the coral reefs that can be found just a few miles offshore. The bay is also surrounded by multiple beaches, channels and creeks.
Largo Sound Fishing Description
Due to its position and climate within Key Largo, fishing at Largo Sound can be prolific. It has both shallow and deep saltwaters that play host to a variety of fish species including spotted sea trout, snook, tarpon, permit, mahi mahi, mangrove red snapper, redfish, grouper, and crevalle jack. Most of the fish are also great targets for any type of angler, whether they are beginners or professionals. The coral reefs located offshore also give anglers a great opportunity to easily find great runs of fish to catch which readily thrive in that environment.
Dive boats, commercial vessels and kayaks are found in Largo Sound all the time, they can even move through shallower parts of the bay. Boat rental and fishing charter services are available near the bay for offshore fishing purposes. Inshore fishing can also yield great catches of big trout by creeks using live bait. Looking for structures by creeks or channels as well as spotting dirty water where baitfish move through are also great spots to look out for.
