Pompano Beach Fishing Charters | 3 Hour Trip
Looking for a fishing adventure that won't leave you green around the gills? Benny's Fishing Charters has you covered with our popular Pompano Beach inshore fishing experience. We'll keep you in the protected waters of the Intracoastal Waterway, where the action is hot but the seas stay calm. Perfect for families, first-timers, or anyone who wants to focus on catching fish instead of fighting seasickness. With up to 5 anglers per boat, you'll get personalized attention while targeting some of South Florida's most sought-after gamefish.
What to Expect on the Water
This isn't your typical head boat experience where you're elbow-to-elbow with strangers. Captain Benny runs a tight ship with small groups, giving everyone plenty of room to cast and fight fish. We'll cruise the shallow flats and channels around Pompano Beach, working structure like docks, bridges, and mangrove shorelines where the fish love to hang out. The inshore waters here are gin-clear most days, so you'll actually see the fish before they hit your bait. Expect to cover a lot of water during our 3-hour window - we're not anchoring up and hoping for the best. This is active fishing where we chase the bite and put you on the fish. Bring your camera because the photo opportunities are endless, and don't forget sunscreen - the Florida sun reflects hard off these shallow waters.
Tactics and Techniques
We fish light tackle here, which means 15-20 pound spinning gear that lets you feel every head shake and run. Live bait is king in these waters - we'll net up pilchards, pinfish, and shrimp depending on what's available and what the fish are eating. When the bite gets tough, we'll switch to artificials like DOA shrimp, spoons, and topwater plugs that drive these inshore species crazy. The water depth ranges from 3 to 15 feet, so we're sight fishing a lot of the time. You'll learn to read the water, spot fish, and make accurate casts to structure. Captain Benny will coach you through proper hook sets and fighting techniques - these inshore fish are strong and they know how to use the current and structure to their advantage. We carry all the gear you need, but feel free to bring your own rod if you've got a favorite setup.
Target Species
Snook are the crown jewel of South Florida inshore fishing, and Pompano Beach has some of the best snook fishing in the state. These ambush predators lurk around docks, bridges, and mangrove points, waiting to crush whatever swims by. They're incredibly strong fighters that will test your drag and make blistering runs toward structure. Snook are most active during the warmer months from April through October, and they feed aggressively during moving tides. What makes them special is their attitude - they hit hard, jump high, and never give up. A slot snook between 28-33 inches is pure gold, and the bigger breeder fish over 33 inches put on an absolute show before you release them.
Tarpon are called the "silver king" for good reason - they're the ultimate inshore gamefish. These prehistoric giants can reach over 100 pounds in our waters, and when they eat your bait, you'll know it instantly. They're famous for their acrobatic jumps and bulldogging runs that can last 20 minutes or more. Peak tarpon season runs from March through July when massive schools migrate through our area. Even smaller tarpon in the 20-40 pound range will give you a workout you won't forget. The key with tarpon is keeping steady pressure and trying to turn their head - easier said than done when you're dealing with a fish that's bigger than you are.
Barracuda are the speed demons of the inshore world, capable of hitting 35 mph when they strike your bait. These toothy predators patrol the flats and channels year-round, but they're most aggressive during the cooler months from November through March. What makes cuda fishing so exciting is the visual aspect - you'll often see them following your bait before they strike with lightning speed. They're excellent table fare when prepared properly, and their aggressive nature makes them perfect for anglers who want constant action. A 10-15 pound barracuda will smoke your drag and test your wire leader with those razor-sharp teeth.
Crevalle Jack might not win any beauty contests, but they're pound-for-pound some of the strongest fish in the ocean. These broad-shouldered bruisers travel in schools and feed with reckless abandon, often creating feeding frenzies that attract birds from miles around. Jack fishing is best during the spring and fall migrations when large schools move through our area. They'll hit just about anything you throw at them, from live bait to flashy spoons and jigs. A 15-20 pound jack will put a serious bend in your rod and make multiple drag-screaming runs. They're also fantastic bait for larger predators like sharks and tarpon if you're looking to step up your game.
