I am Captain Hank Valencia, your designated fishing guide, owner, and operator of Deep Color Fishing based in St Petersburg, Florida. I have a lifetime of experience fishing, especially in the productive waters of Florida’s West Coast. I am also a licensed United States Coast Guard charter service, so you can be sure that you’re in good hands when you book a fishing trip with me and my fishing charter. My charter offers a wide range of fishing adventures like reef fishing, wreck fishing, nearshore fishing, and deep sea fishing in some of the most beautiful spots in Florida. Anyone from seasoned pros, beginners, and even the little ones is welcome aboard to come along and catch fish with me!
My passion for fishing began when I was a young boy growing up in South Carolina. My father was an avid bass fisherman, so he would take me to participate in fishing tournaments as a father-son team. I participated in team tournaments with my father throughout my teenage years until my early 20s. It’s some of the most fun and treasured memories I have with him, and I’m thankful that it ignited my love for the sport.
I love fishing so much, and I love being in the water, so that led me to secure my captain’s license and decide to make the jump to being a full-time fishing guide. I had just marked my 6th year of being in this field full time, and there’s not a single day of regret!
I will always have fond memories as a child because fishing has been ingrained into my being ever since. Apart from the fishing tournaments my father and I took part in, the one memory I will always treasure is one of the earliest I can recall. I remember my first fishing experience on an aluminum rental boat on some lake with my mom and dad. My mom caught a big (to me at the time) catfish, and I was in awe.
I have always had a passion for saltwater fishing because I am enthralled by the diversity of fish species I can find and the various conditions I get to hone my skills in. I love the ocean so much that I sought it out after moving and living in several states. I eventually came to Florida and settled in St. Pete and Madeira Beach. I sold my Ranger bass boat and replaced it with a Center Console so I could target and catch a variety of fish from the Gulf Coast. I did this every weekend until my sales job ended.
Then, I decided to make the leap, get my captain’s license and fulfill my dreams of spending my days out in the sea with people willing to share their passion for fishing. Having a fishing charter has blessed me with being able to take most weekends off to spend time with my family and do other things I’m passionate about. I get to watch my son’s football games on Saturdays, and every Sunday, I’m able to attend church. I am very grateful that having this career has given me so much fun, freedom, and fulfillment.
Some of the best fishing I’ve experienced was in California. I have spent countless days and hours with my dad chasing big bass in Castaic Lake. It’s the largest California water project reservoir set amidst the Sierra Pelona Mountains in Los Angeles County in Southern California. My dad and I also joined a lot of bass fishing tournaments on that lake, so I have a lot of great memories there. I also love fishing on Santa Catalina Island because there are a ton of amazing fish to target and the ocean views are like no other.
Having said that, the Gulf Coast will remain my favorite place because nothing beats angling in the Fishing Capital of the World. Florida is the place to be because it’s home to some of the best angling destinations like the Florida Keys, Tampa Bay, Panama City Beach, Orange Beach, the Gulf Shores, and the Atlantic Coast. If you book with me and Deep Color Fishing, I’ll make sure to do everything I can to make you catch the fish of a lifetime here in southwest Florida. The Gulf Coast is unlike anywhere else because its waters are filled with a variety of saltwater fish that we’ll target, including king mackerel, Spanish mackerel, sea trout, gag grouper, red grouper, goliath grouper, sheepshead, snook, cobia, permit, southern flounder, and hogfish. There are also some opportunities to do some shark fishing!
My charter also takes groups and families to other waterways around the Gulf of Mexico like Lake Seminole, Curiosity Creek, West Lake Ellis, Rainbow Lake, Lake Crenshaw, Little Moon Lake, Van Dyke Lake, Blue Heron Lake, Boat Bayou, Como Lake and many more!
It’s safe to say that you’ll be in great hands if you book your next fishing trip with Deep Color Fishing because my crew and I are committed to providing you with a fantastic fishing experience. We’ll make sure you can go home knowing that you’ve caught big fish, whether we’re on a deep sea fishing trip or an inshore fishing excursion. We want you to have a fun and safe experience when you come along with us.
A trip with my charter means getting aboard our 22’ Allcraft center console boat equipped with a trolling motor, GPS, FishFinder, and a live bait tank. There’s plenty of space in the boat for four people, and it has a canopy that will protect us from the sun and rain. We will also provide you with everything you’ll need, such as high-quality fishing gear, bait, lures, taking care of your fishing license, and booking your reservations. All you need to bring are snacks, drinks, and other necessities. It doesn’t matter if you’re a new angler, an experienced angler, or you just want to have a fun time with your friends or family. Everyone is welcome aboard!
You can contact us via my charter’s website and Facebook page if you’re interested in booking with Deep Color Fishing and me, Captain Hank Valencia. I look forward to seeing you out in the beautiful waters of southwest Florida!
