Blackville, named after railroad promoter Alexander Black, was incorporated in 1837. It is located in Barnwell County, South Carolina. After a railroad was built between the towns of Charleston and Hamburg, Blackville became the destination for overnight stops for trains traveling back and forth.

1. Healing Springs

The Healing Springs, also known as God's Acre Healing Springs, is found behind the Healing Springs Baptist Church. The most famous story of the Healing Springs was about British soldiers who were left in Blackville to die from their injuries during the Revolutionary War and how they made a miraculous recovery after local Indians from the Blackville area motivated them to drink from the springs. The waters from the spring flow from nearby artesian wells. Early settlers who lived near this site believed the waters were sacred because of their healing powers. Today, people continue to laud the water’s health value. Some travelers travel long distances just to collect gallons at a time.
