About Arroyo de los Coches, CA

Arroyo de los Coches is a seasonal freshwater river located in the Milpitas hills of California’s Santa Clara County. Also known simply as “Los Coches Creek”, Arroyo de los Coches owes its name to the Spanish who named it during their expedition to America sometime in the 1800s. When translated to English, its name literally means “Creek of the Wild Pigs”. Arroyo de los Coches was and actually still is home to many wild pigs.

A tributary of the Berryessa Creek which is also a seasonal creek itself, Arroyo de los Coches starts at what was once labeled as the “JMP Ranch” but which has now become a lot for about seventeen single-family homes. It then flows to Spring Valley Homes and Vista Ridge Road until it passes through the Ed R. Levin County Park, Calaveras Road, and eventually Piedmont Road before heading over to Interstate 680 and finally, merging with Berryessa Creek.
